About
A notepad with nowhere to send your notes.
Notepad Neo has no server, no accounts, and no database. That is not a privacy policy — it is the architecture, and everything else about the app follows from it.
Why it exists
The gap this fills is narrow but real. When you need to write something down right now — a phone number, a paragraph you are drafting, notes during a call — the available options are badly matched to the task. A plain text box cannot make a list. A full document editor wants an account and several seconds of loading before you can type a character.
Notepad Neo is an attempt at the thing in between: fast enough to be your reflex, capable enough that you do not have to move the text somewhere else to format it.
The principles, and what each one costs
Three decisions shape the app. Each one buys something and gives something up, and it seems more useful to state both than to list only the upside.
No backend
What it buys: Your notes cannot leak from a server we do not have, cannot be subpoenaed from us, and cannot be read by us. The app keeps working if we disappear.
What it costs: No sync, no sharing by link, no collaboration, and no recovery if you clear your browser data. These are not on a roadmap — they are ruled out by the architecture.
No accounts
What it buys: Zero friction. The app is usable within a second of the page loading, and we hold no personal data because we never asked for any.
What it costs: We cannot tell you apart from anyone else, which means no per-user settings that follow you, and no support conversation that starts with "let me look at your account".
No runtime framework
What it buys: A small download and a fast start. The whole editor is plain TypeScript against the DOM.
What it costs: Some ordinary features are genuinely hard without a document model — font sizing and bidirectional text both took far longer than they would have on top of an editor framework.
How it pays for itself
Advertising on the site pages, and nothing else. There is no paid tier, no feature held back, and no plan to introduce one. Worth stating plainly: ads have no route to your note content — the notes never leave your browser's storage, and no script on the page reads them. What ad networks see is that someone loaded a page, the same as on any other site.
